The Thalmanator Name

OK, I went through a bunch of old posts and noticed that my lovely wife never posted about the origin of our name for the blog. And since I am coming up on one anniversary since I posted last I figured I would break the curse and write a post.

It all started back in 2007 when we first got married and I built our own little network at home. Now why do I need to host an internal network at home? I think its an obsession with anything computers and if I can’t support my own network then how can a company justify me working for them supporting their networks? So we made a little trip to micro center and bought a wireless router and a firewall.

I was like a kid in a candy store with my new gadgets because previously I only had the opportunities to work on my dad’s home network and at any work networks where I was employed at previously. So I sat down and went to work.

When it came time to put a name for our SSID on the wireless router I had a stroke of genius, (it happens quite often really). Now I have never seen the terminator movies but I knew enough about the story to say that it was a big and bad name to use so I just modified it a little to give it some self identification. Hence the name Thalmanator was born. I then gave my firewall the same name.

It was in about June of 2007 when my wife decided to start blogging and she was looking for a name to call our family blog. And she thought it was so cute that she just had to name our blog after my ingenious naming convention which has extended to just about everything we own. It has even gone to the point of getting tee shirts from our siblings with the terminator sketched on the front with the Thalmanator name underneath it.

Nobody knows how far the name will go… epic I know.

And thus ends the story of the birth of the Thalmanator name. Now if only I knew that someone read this post.
